Podcasting Refresher
Overview
Our first workshop, RETA Podcasting, helped you create some of your very first podcasts. In this refresher workshop, we'll review some of those skills and build on them so you can continue your podcasting journey.
Objectives
- review the basics of easy-to-use podcasting and vodcasting tools that will work in your specific teaching context
- create a podcast or vodcast for your class
- share ideas with others about how to integrate podcasting and vodcasting into your classroom
NETS for Teachers
- 1d. model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in f2f and virtual environments
- 2b. develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiousitys and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress.
- 5a. participate in local and global learning communities to explore creative applications of technology to improve student learning.

Activities
Overview of Podcasting (45 minutes)
- Brief review of RETA Podcasting workshop site
- Q&A discussion about implementing podcasting in the classroom
- Brief, fast-paced demo of audio/video podcasting
- Participants choose which they'd like to practice during session and get 45 minutes for that practice.
Audio Podcasting Review (45 minutes)
Video Podcasting Review (45 minutes)
- Creation of video file using PPT, PhotoStory 3, and Jodix
- Upload of video file to Internet Archive
- Posting of file to RETA Podcasting Blog following Creating Video Podcasts
Something New (45 minutes)
Podcasting can be challenging because of the various tools you have to use to do everything. However, I recently found a tool called Posterous that greatly simplifies the process. Let's take a look at this new podcasting tool and discuss how it can be used.
- Overview of Posterous
- Creation of an audio file to podcast using Audacity for emailing to Posterous
- A brief look at some of the other features
- Discussion of how this might be implemented in the classroom
