Decoding QR

QR codes are free, easy to make, print, distribute, scan and decode. They are a useful and fun tool for a variety of educational purposes both in and out of the classroom. Bring a mobile device (iPad/Phone, Droid or Windows) and come prepared for an interactive and “augmented reality” experience with the free apps “QR Code Reader” by TapMedia Ltd.
There are a lot of apps to generate/scan bar codes and QR codes. See list below. Most of them are free. Today I'll be using QR Reader by TapMedia Ltd. You are welcome to download the free app from the App Store.

What do they do?
QR codes store different kinds of data like a barcode. However, they have greater storage capacity and faster readability.
What kinds of data?
Originally developed by automotive industry for product tracking data. Now used for:
- URLs,
- Blogs, wikis,etc.
- text messages,
- email address
- phone number
- connect to a wireless network,
- and more.

Hold the device steady.
Center and focus the image.
Vary the distance.
Check lighting.

Print them at least an inch square.
Use URL shortner.
Use flat surfaces.
